The Team

Benoît Faivre

Co-Artistic Director

Born in 1979, he left his scientific studies to turn towards History, cinema, theater, Art History, and music. He then moved towards directing radio dramas, and creating sound and music for the theater (Cécile Backès, Joseph Danan, Michel Dydim…) and the visual arts. He founded the company La Bande Passante in 2006. With his first two shows (Compléments d’Objets and Cockpit Cuisine), he paved the way for a documentary object theater.

He was joined by Tommy Laszlo in 2014 to co-direct the “Paper Worlds” cycle (Au Fond, Nos Jardins, Cité de Papier, Jardin de Papier, Villes de Papier, and Vies de Papier). Starting in 2019, he launched the Devenir(s) project to collect and share intimate teenage narratives. This major documentary project culminated in the creation of a show, Devenir, which premiered at the end of 2022 at the Théâtre de Laval, National Puppetry Center.

Tommy Laszlo

Co-Artistic Director

Born in 1975, Tommy Laszlo is a visual artist, a graduate of the École Supérieure d’Art de Lorraine. He works as a set decorator for film at the Samsa Film and Delux Productions studios in Luxembourg. He creates videos for the Opéra-Théâtre de Metz, the CDN of Nancy-La Manufacture, and Escales Lyriques. In parallel, he works on personal productions, particularly video portraits. Since 2014, he has collaborated closely on the “Paper Worlds” cycle, which notably includes the show Vies de Papier.

Thomas Gourdy

Co-Artistic Director

Trained at ENSATT, Thomas Gourdy was deeply influenced by his collaboration with Matthias Langhoff, who instilled in him a rigorous attention to language as a revealer of power dynamics. He develops a form of stage writing that intersects archives, intimate narratives, and performative devices.

He has participated in several documentary projects at the crossroads of theater and reality: with Joël Pommerat on political speech during the Estates General of the French Revolution, with Rimini Protokoll on real estate renovations in Marseille, and with the Brazilian performer Janaina Leice at the CDN in Caen.

He joined La Bande Passante in 2020, initially as a facilitator for writing workshops with teenagers, before co-writing the show Devenir. He then became co-artistic director of the company, where he initiated the Force Bleus project, which explores the family memory of three generations of police officers through an autofictional narrative blending judicial archives, field collections, performance, and live music.

He is also the creator of the Mock Trial project, conducted with the Faculty of Law in Metz.

Thomas Guiral

Musicien, auteur, scénographe sonore

Thomas Guiral Musician, Writer, Sound Designer Multi-instrumentalist, sound designer, and former stage manager in the performing arts, Thomas Guiral founded the company La Mécanique des Airs in Nantes in 2023. Nourished by an erudite musical culture, he is committed to transmitting popular narratives through a sensitive approach to sound and the stage.

He joined La Bande Passante as co-writer and performer for the Retour de Sonora project, a hybrid stage narrative blending crossed comic books, graphic theater, and live music. There, he develops a burlesque and lucid perspective on the figure of the displaced artist, inspired as much by Billy Sedlmayr as by Italian Westerns. Together with Tommy Laszlo, he invented a mirror-writing protocol, where each becomes the hero of the story drawn by the other.

Aurélie Burgun

Administrative Manager

A graduate in accounting, Aurélie has collaborated with companies for over 10 years as a production or administrative manager. After nine years spent with the company La Valise, she joined the teams of Blah blah blah, La Mue/tte, and La Bande Passante in 2015, all based in Lorraine.

Khaled Rabah

Technical Director

It was in 2000, when Khaled founded Métis’Art, an association that initiated a multi-day music festival, and coordinated various Fête de la Musique events in France, that his interest in technical production took shape. He deepened this experience by studying at a higher education school for performing arts and event management in Lyon from 2004 to 2007, where he found his path in lighting. He subsequently worked between Lyon and Alsace for various technical service companies, as well as theaters and festivals, and perfected his skills in lighting design, notably while on tour with different theater companies and music bands.

For the past 6 years, he has been the general stage manager for the MOMIX Festival in Kingersheim, the Scènes de Rue Festival in Mulhouse, as well as other events.

Kathleen Fortin

Associate Artist

After studying theater and mime in Quebec, Kathleen studied for 3 years at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts de la Marionnette in Charleville-Mézières. Diploma in hand, she settled in Alsace and collaborated with various directors from Alsace and elsewhere (Eric Dominicone, Eve Ledig, Anne Aycoberry, Luc Amoros, Grégoire Cailles, Émilie Flasher) as a puppeteer, shadow puppeteer, and actress.

She builds for La Soupe Cie, Actemobazar, and Cie Rebonds d’Histoires. She trained in voice with Isabelle Marx and Catherine Fender.

She acts as an outside eye for various companies such as La Mue/tte, Le coin qui tourne, and Les mots du vent. Since 2018, she has been the artistic director of the company PuceAndPunez, where she wrote and directed Tremblements.

In parallel, she teaches the practice of theater and puppetry arts to various audiences.

She joined La Bande Passante in 2016 and worked with Benoît Faivre and Tommy Laszlo on the conception and creation of the shows Au Fond and then Vies de Papier, and she performs alongside Maxime Kerzanet in the show Devenir.

Camille Baroux

Associate Artist

A graphic designer with a degree from the Beaux-Arts in Lyon and the ESAAB in Nevers, Camille divides her time between her graphic design practice and research projects. Specializing in editorial design, she is interested in the forms of the book, reading devices, and plural forms of expression. Her approach is structured around typography, composition, and montage. Her creations cross different disciplinary fields, including literature, art, and staging. In 2021, she co-directed the performance Un Beau Ténébreux with Cie 19 Juillet, and is preparing their next piece, Éclipse, Nuit en fugue. Since 2020, she has been collaborating with the company La Bande Passante on the Devenir project.

Maxime Kerzanet

Associate Artist

Maxime Kerzanet began his theatrical training with the Science 89 company. He continued his acting training in the Classe Libre at Cours Florent (Class XXV) and then at the Conservatoire National Supérieur d’Art Dramatique in Paris (Class of 2008).

In the theater, he has worked under the direction of directors such as Marie Ballet, Naidra Ayadi, Muriel Mayette, Thomas Bouvet, Daniel Jeanneteau, Marie-Christine Soma, Igor and Charlotte Bucharles, and René Loyon.

In 2008, he founded Compagnie 36 Éleusis with Damien Houssier and directed several projects such as Musset’s La Coupe et les Lèvres, and Elle devrait déjà être là based on Chekhov’s The Seagull.

In 2014, he joined the company Claire Sergent and thus participated in: En même temps by Yevgeny Grishkovets, Rumba by Lise Martin, On voudrait revivre (based on the work of Gérard Manset), Retrouvée ou Perdue (based on our memory of Jean Racine’s Phèdre), and finally Paresse (a creation for the 2021/2022 season).

In 2016, he joined the music group Leopoldine HH and participated in the making of their two albums Blumen im Topf and Là ! Lumière particulier !

In 2021, he joined the company La Bande Passante for the show Devenir, in which he performs and for which he composed numerous songs. In 2024, he partnered with the company to release the documentary album Le Monde à l’Intérieur, based on teenage diaries.

Judith Chomel

Associate Artist

A jack-of-all-trades, Judith Chomel has an atypical career path in the fields of cultural administration, music, and children’s literature! With her master’s degree in art history in hand, she alternately became a guide in a medieval fortress, assistant to the cultural attaché at the French Embassy in Italy, editorial coordinator for the Saint-Étienne Design Biennale, and administrator of an early music ensemble before becoming a musician in 2014. With Radio Tutti & Barilla Sisters, a group in which she is a singer and accordionist, the vital energy of voices, the frantic rhythms of tambourines, and the songs of Southern European women are in the spotlight.

Also an illustrator, she is the author of “Gloups” and “La vie rocambolesque de Léon Plouhinec,” both published by L’Atelier du poisson soluble. In music as in illustration, Judith Chomel harbors a strong taste for cross-cultural blending, and the creation of wacky and resolutely joyful universes. Oscillating between tradition and modernity (images and music of the past are met with contemporary graphic and sound treatments): these old repertoires and visuals then serve as a matrix for the creation of a new imaginary folklore. By gleaning and reclaiming popular images and sounds, she allows herself adventurous and unprecedented associations where numerous influences abound.

Étienne Gendrin

Illustrator, Comic Book Author

A graduate of the Institut Saint-Luc in Brussels (comic book option) and holding a bachelor’s degree in visual arts from the Marc Bloch University in Strasbourg, Étienne Gendrin develops graphic work deeply rooted in listening and encounter. His projects often take as their starting point collected words, a living space, or a transmitted memory.

In 2024, he joined La Bande Passante for the regional project Il était une fois dans l’Est, in which he created about thirty illustrations published as a set of cards with QR codes. He then became the graphic advisor for the show Retour de Sonora, where he accompanies the intertwined comic book work led by Tommy Laszlo and Thomas Guiral. With finesse, he helps structure two independent drawn narratives, following a logic of non-linear weaving inspired by the exquisite corpse technique.

Artistic Collaborations

Marie-Jeanne Assayag-Lion

Lighting Designer, Technical Tour Manager

Marie-Jeanne studied sewing in Paris (DTMS – Lycée Paul Poiret) and worked as a costume designer in the performing arts. After an apprenticeship with Erick Plaza-Cochet, a costume and lighting designer, Marie-Jeanne turned towards lighting. She obtained a Diploma in Arts and Crafts with a specialization in Lighting, and began working with dance, clown, and theater companies as a stage manager and lighting designer: Afag, Des pieds des mains, Téatron, Théâtre en kit, Enfant phare, etc. She simultaneously works for various venues and festivals (Théâtre du Saulcy, Le NEST – CDN de Thionville, Théâtre municipal de Thionville, Espace Alya Avignon, Teksas, Centre Pompidou). Charline Dereims

Technical Tour Manager

It was during a BTS in spatial design in Marseille that she discovered scenography and moved towards a bachelor’s degree in performing arts in Aix-en-Provence. Working on light and lighting emerged as one of the tools for creating space, and even after a master’s degree in scenography in Metz, she works as much on set design (Cie Divine comédie, Cie histoire d’Eux, Lux Salina, plastic installation projects…) as on lighting (Cie La Bande Passante, Cie histoire d’Eux, Espace Bernard-Marie Koltès…); always in the service of the performance space. Since her master’s, puppetry and questions of scale regularly question her experience of scenography both on a theoretical level (thesis, research residency) and practical level (design and construction of sets).

Sophie Aptel

Technical Tour Manager

Born in 1992 in Montpellier, Sophie Aptel moved to Nancy in 2011 for 2 years of sound engineering studies. This was followed by a year in Quebec, where she took over stage management for youth theater companies, and organized the tour of a storytelling and legend festival at the end of the north coast. Back in Nancy since 2015, she works mainly in theater, venue hosting, creations, and tours, as well as on theater, circus, and street art festivals. In 2017, she and 5 sidekicks set up the Nouvel An Boukrave, an Eastern European music festival off the coast of Metz.

Pauline Jardel

There, she began working in the audiovisual sector as a production manager for documentaries, reports, and fiction feature films. She also worked as an assistant director for short films and music videos. Since 2003, she has lived in Paris where, alongside her activity in film production, she directs her own documentary films: All I Wanna Do (2010), Mais comment t’as fait, Mathieu Boogaerts ? In 2017, she joined La Bande Passante with her camera to begin the crazy adventure of Vies de Papier.

Thomas Daveluy

Digital Artist, New Media

Born in Bordeaux in 1987, Thomas grew up alongside the development of digital technologies. The Internet, computers, cameras, and camcorders were territories of experimentation from the start. Passionate about cinema, he has always had a very strong connection to the moving image. His attraction to science led him to begin a scientific path before joining an art school where he was able to fully experiment with video. Graduating with a DNSEP in 2011, he is an active and founding member of the artists’ association Multi-Prises (2012-2019) and works regularly with l’Œil d’Oodaaq, an association in Rennes for video art and nomadic images. His projects in France and abroad have allowed him to experiment with digital tools through video, projection mapping, installation, and even sculpture. In 2016, after 2 years of work, he created an experimental video game, Naufrage, in collaboration with a musician and two writers. In 2023, he co-directed the web-documentary site Devenir(s) with La Bande Passante.

Jean-Yves Courcoux

Lighting Design

It all started at the Comédie de Caen in the 80s where he stayed for ten years. He continued lighting design with very diverse artists and companies, particularly in theater. He collaborated with Cécile Backès (King Kong Théorie by Virginie Despentes) directed in Epinal in 2009 where he met Benoît Faivre who was then the sound designer. He also collaborates with David Ayala (Scanner, based on texts by Guy Debord). He has done numerous creations with Jacques Bioulès at the Théâtre du Hangar in Montpellier. Trained at the Opéra du Rhin, he began working in Lorraine with the companies TMM Cie Jean Poirson, Cie la Balestra, Les Crieurs de nuits, and from 1997, with the Théâtre du Centaure in Luxembourg. As a visual artist, he also works for set decorators like Jacques Griesemer (Pierre de culture), takes charge of the realization of Daniel Jassogne’s creations for the Théâtre des Capucins in Luxembourg, and those of Jeanny Kratochwil. Today enriched with a higher national diploma in theater arts and techniques (ENSATT Lyon), he continues his companionship with S.O.U.P.E Cie, Cie des bestioles, Cie Deracinemoa, Les fruits du hasard. During 2015, a new collaboration with Delphine Bardot also gave pride of place to the co-writing and scenography of l’Un dans l’Autre by Cie la Mue/tte, as well as Les Folles in 2017, which allowed him to further develop the notion of Body/costume/puppet theater. Since 2012, he has been working with paper material. Daniel has thus designed and created several prototypes of PopUp puppet stages, for S.O.U.P.E cie and in upcoming collaborations with Cie La Bande Passante.

Gabriel Fabing

Musical Compositions

A multi-instrumentalist musician and composer, passionate about free and open music, Gabriel attended the Amnéville music conservatory for ten years in the piano, transverse flute, and cello classes. In 2003, he met the company La Valise (theater/puppetry/circus) for whom he composed about ten soundtracks. From 2007, he collaborated with multiple companies (dance, street arts, circus, theater, puppetry…) and performed his own compositions for most of the shows (Cie La Vouivre, Carabosse, Les Fruits du Hasard, Anomalie, Azimut, Caliband Théâtre, Volubilis, M.O#Cie). In 2010, he founded the company Blah Blah Blah with Claire Girod, focusing on free and quirky live music. In 2014, with his bachelor’s degree in Performing and Audiovisual Arts in hand, he decided to start out as a freelance videographer. Today, his work focuses on documentaries and advertising. But also on animated graphic design, through which he develops installations between 2D animation and projection mapping. Finally, he teaches in schools, in a training organization for photographers, and at the University of Metz to pass on his passion for animated images.

Isabelle Stelmaszyk

Teacher coordinating with the team for the development of educational materials

She is commissioned by the Regional Academic Delegation for Arts and Cultural Education (Lille) to a national stage – the Tandem Arras-Douai – and within the Academic Commission for the Monitoring of Theater Teaching and Activities (CASEAT). She also supports teams in the Artois-Ternois area as part of the deployment of the Pass Culture. It was during a school performance in 2018 that she discovered the show Vies de papier and an artistic approach that particularly resonated with her sensitivity to History, archives, and their echoes on stage. On the occasion of the creation of Devenir, she co-wrote with Benoît Faivre the dossier gathering all the educational resources intended for teachers around this show.
