Documentary Object Theater
For all audiences aged 11 and up | Duration: 1h05
Premiere: November 8, 2022, at Théâtre de Laval – National Center for Puppetry

The company continues its sensitive exploration of archives, this time focusing on teenagers’ diaries. Over three years, the artists collected numerous writings through public calls for testimonies, archival research, and residencies with teenagers from past and present generations. These accounts, though deeply personal and unique, are nonetheless universal and resonate with the emotions of this period—both fascinating and formative.

Friends in middle school, lovers in high school, Katell and Matthieu already shared a passion for music and theater during their teenage years. Having lost touch after their final exams, they reunite 20 years later around this theater project based on teenage writings. Inevitably, the texts, objects, notebooks, collages, and music from these incandescent lives bring back memories of their own adolescence.

These constellations of intertwined destinies form the foundation of a performance that blends acting, music, image and object manipulation, and video creation. Through this show, La Bande Passante reaches out to the part of adolescence that lingers within us—within our lives and memories, our present and past—to continue the journey of becoming.

“When I write, I feel like I am making myself, like I am in the process of creating who I am.”
(Hugo, 15 years old)

Devenir(s): The Web Documentary

All the material already gathered—beyond the stage production—and all that is yet to come… what should be done with it?
How can we organize these thoughts that seem to resonate with each other?
How can we make sense of all this turbulence contained within these lives, these writings, and these creations?

Thomas Daveluy, Benoît Faivre, and Camille Baroux have developed a website to collect and explore the vast documentary material gathered around self-narratives from adolescence.

A Documentary Song Album

Maxime Kerzanet, actor and composer, has worked on setting numerous texts from these teenagers to music.
These compositions hold a central place in the performance—not only formally and poetically but also in defining the character through their musical creations.

A documentary song album is currently being recorded and arranged, co-produced by Cie La Bande Passante and Hé Ouais Mec Productions.

The album will be released in April 2024 in physical format (enhanced with a beautiful 28-page booklet!) and on dedicated streaming platforms.
